Short email this week in light of the holidays.
Your inbox is probably getting hammered right now. Black Friday deals, Cyber Monday countdowns, everyone trying to sell you something before the year ends.
I'm not going to do that. No pitch, no promo, just a message I wanted to share.
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you're getting fat over this week surrounded by good food, great company, and moments worth savoring.
This holiday traces back to 1621. The Plymouth colonists and Wampanoag people shared a harvest feast, a moment of gratitude after a brutal year of survival. It reminds us that even in our hardest seasons, there's always something worth giving thanks for.
Speaking of not so hard hard seasons... I spent part of this week rewatching The Lord of the Rings trilogy. It's become an American tradition to put family movies on during the holidays, right?
LOTR is one of, if not arguably the best series ever written/filmed and there’s a reason why people always go back to it and forever will.
It’s because the series is ultimately about hope, the triumph over evil, and most importantly, ourselves.
See, Frodo and Sam aren't warriors. They're not wizards or kings. I doubt they’ve even been in a street fight in the peaceful shire.
They're hobbits, small, unassuming country folk, devoid of evil who work to eat and have merriment.
So when the mission of carrying The One Ring to Mount Doom comes up, they're completely out of their depth.
By every measure, they shouldn't be the ones carrying the fate of Middle-earth. But they do it anyway.
The members of the council of Elrond immediately recognizes that paradoxically, despite having zero qualifications, that the hobbits are the perfect fit.
Thats because they're diamonds in the rough. Underdogs who choose bravery even when they feel weak. Who keep going when everything in them wants to quit. Who triumph not because they're the strongest, but because they refuse to give up.
Sound familiar?
That's you.
• You show up when it's hard – Most people quit when things get uncomfortable. You're still here, still trying, still moving forward.
• You choose courage over comfort – Taking the first step, making the change, doing the work, that takes guts. You have them.
• You're unpolished but unbreakable – You might not have it all figured out yet, but you have something more valuable: resilience.
• You believe there's more – Deep down, you know you're capable of something greater. That belief is what separates diamonds from dust.
The world loves to celebrate the finished product. The polished gem, the victory lap, the "overnight success." But the real magic happens in the rough.
The journey is the destination.
In the showing up. In choosing to be brave, one more day.
So on this Thanksgiving weekend, I'm grateful for you. For your willingness to grow, to struggle, to become, and not just for your business.
And many thanks as well for reading my emails and being on my reading list.
It means a lot.
Happy holidays.
